BeritaHabitat.Net merupakan wadah informasi dan berbagi pengetahuan mengenai masalah-masalah lingkungan hidup. BeritaHabitat.Net menjunjung tinggi kebebasan berekspresi, berpendapat, dan mengakses informasi, seperti yang dijamin dalam:

• Universal Declaration of Human Rights, Pasal 19, “Everyone has the right to freedom of opinion and expression; this right includes freedom to hold opinions without interference and to seek, receive and impart information and ideas through any media and regardless of frontiers.”
• International Covenants on Civil and Political Rights, Pasal 19, “(1) Everyone shall have the right to hold opinions without interference. (2) Everyone shall have the right to freedom of expression; this right shall include freedom to seek, receive and impart information and ideas of all kinds, regardless of frontiers, either orally, in writing or in print, in the form of art, or through any other media of his choice. (3)The exercise of the rights provided for in paragraph 2 of this article carries with it special duties and responsibilities. It may therefore be subject to certain restrictions, but these shall only be such as are provided by law and are necessary: (a) For respect of the rights or reputations of others; (b) For the protection of national security or of public order (ordre public), or of public health or morals.”
• Undang-Undang Dasar 1945, Pasal 28, “Kemerdekaan berserikat dan berkumpul, mengeluarkan pikiran dengan lisan dan tulisan dan sebagainya ditetapkan dengan undang-undang.”

BeritaHabitat.Net membuka akses pada seluruh masyarakat untuk mendapatkan dan berbagi informasi dan pengetahuan, seperti diamanatkan dalam Declaration of Principles, Building the Information Society: A Global Challenge In The New Millenium, World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS):

• Pasal 23, “The ability for all to access and contribute information, ideas and knowledge is essential in an inclusive Information Society.”
• Pasal 56, “The Information Society should respect peace and uphold the fundamental values of freedom, equality, solidarity, tolerance, shared responsibility, and respect for nature.”
• Pasal 58, “The use of ICTs and content creation should respect human rights and fundamental freedoms of others, including personal privacy, and the right to freedom of thought, conscience, and religion in conformity with relevant international instruments.”
• Pasal 59, “All actors in the Information Society should take appropriate actions and preventive measures, as determined by law, against abusive uses of ICTs, such as illegal and other acts motivated by racism, racial discrimination, xenophobia, and related intolerance, hatred, violence, all forms of child abuse, including paedophilia and child pornography, and trafficking in, and exploitation of, human beings.”

Kesepahaman Bersama Setiap orang bisa dan berhak menyampaikan informasi dalam bentuk berita dan opini — selanjutnya disebut naskah — dengan memahami beberapa hal di bawah ini.

1. Pengakses dan pemberi naskah — yang menjadi anggota selanjutnya disebut Pegiat — BeritaHabitat.Net bersifat sukarela.
2. Pengelola/Administrastor berhak melakukan seleksi dan penyuntingan setiap naskah yang masuk tanpa mengubah makna.
3. Setiap pengirim naskah perlu memperhatikan validasi data, akurasi, dan kebenaran. Pengirim bertanggung jawab atas isi naskah.
4. BeritaHabitat.Net memberikan ruang pada pengirim atau pihak lain untuk menambah, menyanggah, mengajukan keberatan, serta mengoreksi atas isi naskah yang sudah ditampilkan.
5. BeritaHabitat.Net mempersilakan pembaca untuk mengutip, menggandakan, atau merujuk naskah yang sudah ditayangkan dengan menyebutkan judul naskah, penulis, dan BeritaHabitat.net.
6. Setiap bentuk pemanfaatan naskah yang sudah ditampilkan dan segala akibat yang ditimbulkan merupakan tanggung jawab pihak yang memanfaatkan.
